July 20 saw the release of Mac OS X 10.7 Lion, providing over 250 new features. Also on this day, Lion became one of the best selling versions so far for Apple by selling 1 million copies within its first day of availability in the Mac App Store as a download only.

It is now less than six months months to the Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2012) and now we start to wonder what company will make the next largest TV (bragging rights currently go to the Panasonic 152” 3D plasma for $500,000), or win the Best of CES award, or even the next best selling product for the year.
At the 2011 CES show, there were 149,529 attendees making it another record-breaking year in their 48-year history. More than 40,000 of the 2011 CES attendees are top decision makers and senior level executives for the companies they represent and one third of the attendees are the final decision maker when it comes to new technology purchases.

Windows 8, the next update to the Microsoft Windows line, will be available in the fall of 2012 or early 2013. It will be able to run on a system on a chip and ARM processors, allowing a variety of devices to run on Windows 8: phones, tablets, and desktop systems.
Some of the new features in Windows 8 are: a tile-based Start screen (replacing the Windows Start menu), fully touch-optimized browsing with the power of hardware accelerated Internet Explorer 10, Web-connected apps built using HTML5 and JavaScript that have access to the full power of your PC. The Windows experience will be powered by application and device developers around the world.
The user interface and new apps will work with or without a keyboard and mouse on a broad range of screen sizes and pixel densities, from small tablets to laptops, desktops, all-in-ones, or classroom-sized displays.
Logitech posted a $480 million gain in Q1 2012 (April-June, 2011), but plans to take a $34 million loss for Q2 2012 to deal with the dismal sales of the Revue, a Google TV based set top box, after dropping the price to $99. This is below their cost.

Apple, realizing how game changing its App Store was to the iPhone and the iPad , ushered in the Mac App Store at the beginning of the 2011. This store works in the same vein as the mobile App Store, except it’s for your desktop .
It too, recently reached a milestone, garnering over 1 million downloads on the first day of its launch.
That brings us with the obvious question. Just what is it that makes the App Store so popular with consumers? What’s in Apple’s secret sauce?
Well, it’s a combination of quite a few factors, but the most basic factors are ease of accessibility, the lack of a formal install process, the modest prices of the paid apps, and of course, great software.
Combine all of that with Apple’s sleek hardware, and you have a sure-fire-hit on your hands. At this point, anything else looks like sheer silliness when compared to the width, and depth of the App Store experience.
