Band of Gold explores trials of each day

The Boonville High School Band of Gold is exploring the Three Rings of Life this year.

Essentially, the band will take the audience on a journey of what encapsulates an average day in a person's life.

Band Director Fran Vile said each movement depicts the emotional journey of someone's day.

The first movement is called "Perpetuation," followed by "Confliction."

"This is when every day life gets so many layers on it that there becomes conflicts," Vile said.

He added that the audience should be able to relate since problems always occur in day to day activities.

The third movement is "Contemplation," followed by "Resolution," which will bring all the previous themes together in balance.

John Fannin returns this year as the band's music composer, as well as drill writer, Castle North Middle School Band Director Tom Dean.

The first couple of minutes of the show has the kids hustling through drill sets.

Assistant Band Director Dana Meyer said it's been challenging teaching some of the newer marchers such fast drill, but that they are working hard and getting it done.

Vile said that there are also a lot of visuals that are unique to each band member.

"There are a lot of individual visual responsibilities," he said. "It is not unison across the ensemble. We're all doing different things at different times. They're grasping it. They're getting it."

As far as the music is concerned, Vile said that it is written at a level that,"we can achieve excellence at for a band of our size."

One thing that audience members may notice differently about the band is that the battery - the marching drum line - won't be on the field the entire time.

Instead, they will spend some of the time performing within the pit, which will be on the field instead of on the sideline.

"We're trying lots of different things this year," said Vile. "We're going outside of the box."

The Band of Gold's first performance for the public will be at a home football game on Friday, Aug. 19.

I took my platinum ring in to the same place it was bought to have it re-sized. I didn’t look at the inscriptions until I got home, but it now says 14k instead of 95 plat and it feels much lighter. I stupidly didn’t notice while I was at the shop. Other than taking it back and hoping they make it right, anything else I can do? Wow… It does sound like they swapped it. What scum. I’d speak to them and make sure it wasn’t a mistake… maybe they had another they were working on that looked the same? I’d report them to the better business bureau as well. It’s easy enough to check if a diamond is real- you can even take it in to a pawn shop and make sure the diamond isn’t cubic zirconia or something. Sometimes you can tell if you look at the diamond and it throws off more fire than it did before.
