McCotter cancels Thursday's Des Moines stop, stays in DC for debt ceiling vote

Michigan Congressman and GOP hopeful Thaddeus McCotter has postponed a campaign  stop in Des Moines Thursday due to the pending vote on the nation’s debt ceiling in the U.S. House.

The McCotter campaign hopes to reschedule the appearance, which was to be part of the 2012 Presidential Candidate Speaker Series  sponsored by the Greater Des Moines Partnership, Mediacom, and IowaPolitics.com in partnership with the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs.

Georgia businessman Herman Cain will be the next speaker in the series. That event is set for  August 4 from noon to 1 p.m. at the State Historical Building, 600 E. Locust St. in downtown Des Moines.

C-SPAN, Mediacom Encourage Residents to Embrace Social Media ...

C-SPAN Marketing Representative Rachel Katz says the purpose of the tour is to educate voters about the many ways to get connected to the news that comes out of our nation’s capital.

The interactive displays featured laptops showing the different websites the network uses to produce political news.  There were also representatives assisting visitors to applications people can use on their handheld devices such as smart phones.

Katz says the tour made stops in Des Moines, Oskaloosa, and Washington before heading to other eastern Iowa cities.
