Williams set for RB competition
I was getting into it (conditioning-wise), but I wasnt where I wanted to be, Williams said. Now I am. I was determined right after the season to get myself in the best possible shape and that just carried over to now. When I was on (winter) break, I ran myself to death. A lot of agilities, a lot of running treadmills. I wanted to put myself so far ahead to where it's not a question. That was my main focus. Thats what I fought to do. My biggest goal was to get myself into the best possible shape I could get into, said Williams, who is competing with sophomore Jeremy Deering, freshmen Savon Huggins and Ben Martin, and injured redshirt freshman Jawan Jamison for the featured tailback role. The second thing was to be a student of the game. That's pretty much been my focus since the end of last season. Rocket has looked pretty good, Schiano said, calling Williams by his nickname. Weve had two live-middle drills where you get to see some guys run with tackling. If you can make the cuts, then you can say the guy can be a back. But does he break tackles? Does he make it happen? What yards does he make happen? I think Saturdays (scrimmage) will be more indicative or more telling than any of this because weve only had twenty (live running) plays. Schiano announced that defensive end Manny Abreu (head), running back Jawan Jamison (hamstring) and safety Rashad Knight (who had surgery on his broken foot yesterday) will all miss Saturdays scrimmage. The Rutgers coach isnt sure about the status of running back Jeremy Deering (head) and cornerback Logan Ryan (leg), while reserve wideout J.T. Tartacoff (hamstring) was also held out of practice and is uncertain for the first intrasquad scrimmage. With Abreu sidelined, Marvin Booker continued to get first-team reps while freshman Myles Jackson saw increased playing time at second-team defensive end. Its a wide open competition when you get beyond the first three (defensive linemen), Schiano said. Well figure out who the best are. ... Ramel Meekins, a standout on Rutgers defensive line from 2003 through 06 and a former captain, recently joined the academic support staff. It's great, Schiano said. That's three former captains working for us now. Meekins is working for us in the academic support. Shawn Tucker is an assistant athletic director for life skills. Will Gilkison is director of football operations. How To Make Dread Locks - News

Free-form- this style to start dreadlocks is most associated with Rastafarians and other religious sects. To form free form dreadlocks you simply let the buds form randomly and as the locks grow they will maintain whatever size, shape, thickness that they lock into.
Comb Coils- this is the simplest form of starting dreadlocks. These are single strand twists that are coiled in one direction with a styling aid and clips. This method of dreadlocking only works for highly textured hair that can maintain the coil.
Two strand Twists - The double strand twist method for locking hair is less delicate than comb coils. They allow the hair to mesh and interlock within the twist and as they get older begin to resemble dreadlocks before many other methods. It has been reported that twists lock faster and smoother than other methods.
Palm rolling- uses a styling aid on sectioned damp hair. The hair is then rolled back and forth between your palms. Once the hair has produced a cylindrical lock you place a clip on the root and allow to dry. Palm rolling is very popular method that is used to compress and tighten knots along the dreadlock.
Latching - This method of starting dreadlocks uses a special latch hook tool that grabs the new growth and pulls the hair through out the dreadlock. This method interlocks the hair within each other in a particular pattern. This method allows your lock to get the closest to the root of the scalp as possible. Latched dreadlocks are easier to maintain and very durable. This method can be very expensive at salons and many argue it is not good for the long term health of the dreadlocks.
