Timber supplier Finsa remains confident

TIMBER products specialist Finsa UK says the public spending cuts will hit its business in 2011 – but its directors are confident it will stay in the black.

Accounts recently filed at Companies House show the Birkenhead-based company reported sales of £31.3m in 2010 – just down from £31.2m the previous year.

Its pre-tax profit fell from £687,000 to £645,000.

Finsa UK is part of the Spanish Finsa group, which has factories in countries including Spain, Portugal, the USA and South Africa.

UK managing director Rafael Willisch said: “The directors expect 2011 to be a difficult year, due to the impact of the public sector spending cuts on the building industry and on the social housing sector.

“The private sector is not expected to improve significantly, specially in the building and furniture sectors to which Finsa UK is specially exposed.

“The DIY sector is expected to keep performing better than the other two sectors previously mentioned.

“The directors consider the company to be well-placed to continue to trade profitably. The strong and diversified business strategy is being implemented through a broader range of distribution channels offered to facilitate the access of our products to a growing customer base among different economic sectors.”

In 2010, Finsa UK employed 17 people at its Vittoria Dock base.

It usually sells directly to timber merchants or DIY chains, such as B&Q, but last year opened its first “to the public” counter in Wallasey. Announcing the opening, Mr Willisch said: “We are now able to sell our flooring and kitchen products directly to the trade, as well as to the public, and, by doing so, save those customers money.

Any Ape » Timber Cladding: a Green DIY Project

Timber is arguably the greenest substance you can utilise for construction. Trees absorb carbon dioxide that exists in the atmosphere which assists in counter-balancing all the CO2 being produced from the planet’s economic system. It’s furthermore completely recycleable and critically it’s easy to recycle. You can’t say this for other construction materials. And in the mould of a construction material, it is storage for CO2. With heedful planning, deforestation is counter-balanced with the growth of new trees.

In point of fact, nearly one tonne of carbon dioxide savings are made by substituting non-wood building materials for timber. Moreover, timberwood makes for a great insulator, and so utilising timber wood increases your fuel efficiency for your home, as well as saving you money in the process. This is why countries like Sweden, Norway and Finland use timber wood a lot for a building material.

The appropriate form of wood, and the correct type of timber wood cuts are necessary in order to maximise efficiency. You’ll need to source a firm that has a good reputation as timber decking suppliers or similar products. A company like this can locate the correct sort of wood for the specific project you require it for - whether it’s a public building, a large scale commercial project, or even a home build.
