Top men's champions in Alpine Ski World Cup competition

The first men's FIS (International Ski Federation) Alpine Ski World Cup champion was Jean-Claude Killy of France. In 1967, Killy won 12 of the 18 races on the schedule, which at the time included only Slalom, Giant Slalom, and Downhill races. Today, the races also include Super G and Alpine Combined, and a skier must be proficient in all these disciplines to some degree in order to become a champion. These five men have shown consistency and strength in disciplines on their way to becoming World Cup champions multiple times.

Gustav Thoni - this Italian won four World Cup championships between 1969 and 1980, adding three Discipline World Cups in Giant Slalom and two in Slalom. Thoni also won three medals in the Olympics: one gold in the Giant Slalom and two silvers in Slalom.

Pirmin Zurbriggen - a four-time World Cup champion from Saas Almagell, Switzerland, Zurbriggen also won 12 Discipline World Cup championships (two in Downhill, four in Super G, three in Giant Slalom, and three in Alpine Combined).

Hermann Maier - the Austrian-born Maier was a four-time World Cup champ who shined in Super G, where he won five Discipline World Cup titles; he also added Discipline World Cup titles in Downhill (two) and Giant Slalom (three). In his long career (1996 to 2009), "The Herminator" won four Olympic medals, including two gold medals in 1998 in the Super G and Giant Slalom.

Ingemar Stenmark - a native of Joesjo, Sweden, Stenmark also had a long career (1973 to 1989) which saw him win three World Cup championships.
