Guests stay cool by the pool at super birthday party

Great beginnings produce picturesque parties.

  Susan and Ken Wallis, Laura Maldonado, Rita and Dave Marquez, Joann Kuzmiak, Shauna and Troy Hanenberg, Jill and Ray Swerdfeger and Joanna Andenucio were some of the 60 invitees for a July 2 40th poolside birthday celebration at the Pueblo Country Club, hosted by Cory Vetta for wife Dena. The black-, pink- and white-themed party included swimming, dancing, food and even a special Dena martini concoction.

  Black-and-white-clothed tables were centered with white rose and daisy bouquets in glass vases surrounded by votives for the buffet of egg rolls, antipasto platters, fruit kabob branches on a pineapple, chicken and steak kabobs, etc. There was also a kids’ buffet.

  Dena's daughter Bella, 4, brother Mike Giglio, parents Dee Giglio and Valerie and Mike Giglio were later surprised with the arrival of her brother Brett from San Diego and friend Aaron Rodgers, quarterback of the Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers. Emeril and Grace Tafoya, Aaron and Julianna Krinsky, newlyweds Aly and Jed Cook and Madison and Baine Moore were some of those spotted in the pool before Aaron led celebrants Traci and Rick Dillard, Emily and Derek Vidmar, Clara Colletti, Millie and Chuck Reynolds, etc. in a conga line around the grassy green.

  Brenda and Kevin Shriver, Krystal and Shawn Nakamura, Georgiann and Mark Haering (and their adorable baby twin daughters) were there for the pink, white and chocolate cupcakes served as the tiers atop a white-and-pink-frosted white round. Contemporary background and dance music played throughout the breezy summer evening.

  Handcrafted jewelry and monogrammed stationary, gift cards, spa and restaurant certificates, resort weekends, handbags, wine, CDs were among Dena's upscale gifts to kick off her new decade of life. Her infectious smile and friendly persona only improve with age —despite prankster friends Pebbles and Frank Spinuzzi and Angela and Alex Krinsky surprising her upon returning from her trip on her "real" June 21 birth date with oodles of funny “40s" yard signs, long multicolored streamers surrounding the house, yellow caution tape throughout the front and back garden areas, etc., as a vivid reminder of the passing years.

  IDA ANZUINI, SUSAN PAYNE, Clara Trani, Georgia Walker and Patty Bedard were among the 490 in the gallery at the newly remodeled Hasan residence to surprise Asma Hasan for a May wedding shower co-hosted by Janey Lattimer-Bonham, Maggie Divelbiss, Mindy Potestio, Linda McKinnon, Mary Jo Ryals, and Mary Parrish and Shirley Dingle (en absentia). The bride-to-be, daughter of Seeme and Malik, was in town from Denver for several days to plan her July 24 evening wedding to Tahir Ali, son of Shafqat and Mubarik of Toronto.
